THE TAHOE-TRUCKEE REGION IS TRANSFORMING TRANSPORTATION FOR ZERO EMISSION VEHICLES.

Our goal is to improve infrastructure to facilitate the use of plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) and other zero emission vehicles (ZEV). ZEVs could transform the Tahoe-Truckee Region by dramatically reducing petroleum consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and noise; improving water quality/clarity; and increasing energy independence and transportation choices.

TRPA partnered with the Truckee-Donner Public Utility District and a cross-regional Coordinating Council to accelerate transportation electrification in the region. Bolstered by this collaborative partnership, progress has been made with the release of an action-oriented readiness plan, providing a road map to strategically deploy electric vehicle infrastructure and user-friendly toolkits. Implementation is underway.

Our Vision

  • Establish the Tahoe-Truckee Region as a leader in mass zero emission vehicle deployment supported by robust education and engagement.
  • Provide a convenient network of charging infrastructure.
  • Facilitate streamlined charger installation
  • Provide guidance on standard codes.
  • Encourage the widespread use of renewable energy resources.

Predicting the Future

Trends indicate greater EV growth than for hybrids since their popularity has increased and versatility in the number of different models has multiplied (25 different models & increasing). Also these cars have great performance, are greener, safer, and can save $ in the long term in comparison to conventional vehicles. PEV Growth scenarios were forecasted – by 2040 we could see an increase between 8,000 to 18,000 trips. The medium EV growth scenario shows that by 2025, ICF forecasts 3-6% of the 120,000 daily trips will be made by EVs and by 2040, ICF forecasts 6.5-11.3% of total visitor trips will be made by EVs.
